Summary:
Choking, suffocating or strangulating someone is a key predictor of domestic homicide and was introduced as a domestic violence crime in Queensland in May 2016. This paper presents data on offenders and sentencing outcomes for this offence, relating to the 404 cases sentenced between 2016-17 and 2017-18. Information is presented on offender age and gender, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander offenders, type of plea, associated offences, prior offending, custodial penalties, and length of sentence.
