"Matthew Ashby ... prosecuted an action at common law against William White and others, the constables of Aylesbury, for not receiving his vote at an election of burgesses to serve in Parliament for the said borough of Aylesbury."--P. 37.
"Other actions of the same nature were then brought, by Paty and others, against the returning officers of Aylesbury ... This proceeding was declared by the House of commons a breach of the privilege of Parliament, and John Paty was sent to Newgate ... He sued out his writ of habeas corpus and was brought up before the Court of Queen's Bench.-p. vi-vii.
