Isaacs, Isaac Alfred, -- Sir.
Legal biography -- Australia.
Law -- Australia -- History.
Australia -- Politics and government.
Summary:
This book appeared in 1963 and accounts Isaacs' career from birth through to his appointment as Governor-General. It is a straightforward, easily readable account containing a number of short chapters on Isaacs' major decisions. It is curious that Australia has heroes such as Bradman and Mawson and yet the rise of an Australian born immigrant tailor's son to the office of Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia and then Governor of Australia through hard work and ability has not achieved the legend of the likes of Abraham Lincoln. Gordon's work is an accessible read for the non-lawyer and different to Zelman Cowan's Isaac Isaacs biography published in 1967.
