Summary:
Since its formation in 1859, Queensland has had 26 Governors—the personal representatives of the Crown. All have put their stamp on the role, which is both at the heart of all government action and a beacon of unity outside politics. The Governors of Modern Queensland is the first book to explore the experience of the recent Vice-Regal representatives—Leneen Forde, Peter Arnison, Quentin Bryce, Penelope Wensley and Paul de Jersey. It also features personal interviews with these Governors and input from all living Queensland Premiers. It provides a unique insight into the modern role of Governors, highlighting how their constitutional, ceremonial and community duties have provided stability across the state, especially in times of need. At the heart of their service has been a willingness to engage widely with a vibrant cross-section of Queenslanders and a deep and abiding commitment to meet the contemporary needs of the people. Importantly, this book celebrates and honours Queenslanders, and the service rendered to them by their Governors.
